Flanders Metals Day at Aperam Genk

On the 24th of May Flanders Metals Valley organized a Flanders Metals Day at Aperam in Genk, a global player in the stainless, electrical and specialty steel market and international leader in environmental sustainability.

Aperam has customers in over 40 countries and their production facilities are spread out over Brazil, France and Belgium. The company places sustainability at the heart of its business, helping customers worldwide to excel in the circular economy.

The plant in Genk is one of the biggest industrial plants in Limburg. It employs over 1170 people and focusses on the recycling of stainless steel scrap to produce stainless steel rolls and plates.

During our Flanders Metals Day, Aperam Genk welcomed over 55 of our members for a guided company tour and networking moment! Our event started with an introduction by Aperam’s General Manager Mr. Gert Heylen, giving the participants a clear overview of the activities Aperam is involved in as well as their actions to remain an international leader in environmental sustainability!

After the introduction, the participants were able to gear up with the proper safety equipment and start their company visit. Two busses brought them to the BUL-4 line at the heart of the Aperam plant where the guided tour was continued by foot.

Walking around a big metallurgical company can work up an appetite! Something which the people at Aperam understand very well as they had foreseen an extended array of cold and warm bites for all of the participants after the guided tour, thus creating the ideal environment for a successful networking moment.

We would like to thank all or our participants, the Aperam team (Gert Heylen, Jimmy De Wilde, Geert Van Beveren, …) for making this event happen, as well as Els Nagels for an interesting Inspyro company pitch.
