Researcher Technical Support & Services – OCAS

For the reinforcement of our Team ‘Technical Support & Services’, we are looking for an enthusiastic researcher with a customer-oriented mindset. Within our team we support ArcelorMittal customers, ArcelorMittal plants and external customers with the tests they cannot perform themselves and with the problems encountered during the production and usage of steel, but also with problems related to steel structures and installations, such as corrosion and fatigue. Occasionally we also manage some development projects to extend our services, which often involve interaction with the development teams within OCAS, such as the Surfaces and Metallurgy team.

You will mainly work at our site in Zelzate (located next to the ArcelorMittal Gent plant), but depending on the assignment, your presence will also be required in Zwijnaarde (‘Technologiepark’).

Your profile

  • You have an engineering or master degree
  • You have experience in one or more of the fields below, or are willing to learn:
    • Corrosion
    • Failure analysis
    • Welding
    • Mechanical engineering
    • Metallurgy
  • You are fluent in English (spoken and written)
  • Knowledge of Dutch is an asset
  • You have good social and communication skills to work in a team based environment
  • Your are flexible and able to handle a variety of projects

About the team

Within this context, you will be working for the laboratory Gent Research Center located in Zelzate  and Zwijnaarde (Belgium) which objectives are : alloy and metallic coating  product development for a number of industry market segments, specialised in electrical steels development and electromagnetic properties characterisation, focus on energy market with wind energy and offshore activities being major R&D areas, lifetime determination of (welded) structures under fatigue, wear, corrosion and H sollicitations, metal processing centre being factory for lab samples in different dimensions with a particular focus on heavy gauge material processing and characterisation. The main missions of Gent Research Center is to support ArcelorMittal market approach in the different sectors of Industry through enriched offer and services to customers, and to set up new industrial spinoff activities.
